LIVING San Diego: ONE TACO AT A TIME

Let’s talk about what really matters in life: Great times, Great Fashion and Great TACOS. Tacos are in my blood. I dream about tacos, I eat tacos, I love tacos.

Living in Southern California, there are many, many spots to try, some better than others, but we definitely have some of the best here based on how close we are to the border. By popular demand, I am going to share some of my favorites with you. In no order at all, here are some of my favorite, each great depending on what kind of vibe I am craving!

Salud, Barrio Logan, CA

Best way to enjoy horchata.. with booze
Birria taco
Churros with Ice Cream, Caramel and Spicy Powder

This is one of my favorite taco places for many reasons. The restaurant itself, is very cute and has a nice vibe if you are trying to show tourists something new that feels very “Mexico/San Diego”. They have an amazing Taco Tuesday deal, where you can get 3 tacos for only 6 Bucks, which is a bargain when you consider how delicious these babes are. My favorite time to go here is on a Monday, when it is slow and you can enjoy the experience without the crowds. If you do go during Taco Tuesday, a Friday or Weekend, prepare yourself to wait in line for a very long time.

My favorite tacos to get at Salud are the Carne Asada, Al pastor and Birria Tacos. Their Mulitas are to die for as well. If you have never had a mulita, it is literally two tacos put together with melted, delicious cheese added. YUM!

Once you are there, do yourself a favor and get some delicious cocktails and CHURROS. They are to die for!

Lola 55, East Village

Unlike Salud, Lola 55 is a little bit more chill and feels more like a Little Italy food hall, but the food definitely makes up for it. Lola 55 combines traditional handcrafted Mexican favorites with an exiting gourmet twist and will take your palate on a beautiful adventure.

Not tacos, but still a staple here are the Quesadillas Oaxacas. These quesadillas are some of the most delicious quesadillas I have eaten, ever. They are paired with a delicious avocado mousse and a TO DIE FOR morita sauce. I highly recommend ordering these and upgrading them to have MEAT.

If you are with a group or are feeling extra hungry, do what I do, and order one of each taco on the menu. From filet mignon, to cauliflower, jackfruit and more, these tacos will become your favorite fast.

Las Hadas, Gaslamp

Carne Asada Tacos
Here is me with a whole dang pineapple.

Las Hadas is one of my favorite Taco Tuesday spots because they are a fun uplifting vibe, great cheap margaritas an amazing taco deals. The tacos here are super fresh and taste delicious. My favorite taco to get here is the steak taco with the tropical sauce on a flour tortilla. Full disclaimer: I was very alarmed when I had it for the first time, but quickly fell in love with the flavors!

Steamy Piggy, Convoy

Chicken Thai Bao

These are technically not tacos, but they feel very much like tacos and are one of my favorite taco alternatives. The chicken Bao featured above is the perfect convention of sweet and spicy and combined an asian tasting chicken sandwich, with the sweetness of a McGriddle and excitement of a taco. The place itself is small, but super cute. If you work in the area I highly recommend you check them out for lunch or a after-work pick-me-up!

Taqueria Los Chuchys, Gaslamp

Tacos de Birria

Located across the street from a handful of Mexican restaurants and a short walk from the Downtown San Diego night life, this place is a hidden gem! The tortillas are made from scratch while you wait and the meat is delicious. At $3.50 a taco, this place is a great bang for your buck and feels very much like you are in Tijuana enjoying tacos at a taqueria. This place is not as fancy as the others on this list and feels like a hole in the wall, but these are the best tacos Gaslamp has to offer! Definitely check them out if you are in the area, or drunk nearby!
